Ergonomics and Mental Health

We seem to forget that pain and discomfort can affect our mental health. From reading the article “The Role of Ergonomics in Employee Mental Health and Well-being” by the Corporate Wellness Magazine, we can learn a lot about how ergonomics affect our mental well-being. In this blog post, we will discuss some key findings we found.

Proper ergonomics is essential to ensuring our overall mental and physical well-being. Ergonomics can be defined as the science of fitting a workplace to the user’s needs. Our ergonomic chairs are designed to be a full body ergonomic support system to help the operator increase efficiency and productivity and reduce discomfort and pain. Our fully adjustable chairs are designed to fit any operator and support them in their respective workplace. Thereby creating a comfortable and safe environment that reduces the risk of physical injury and promotes good posture and healthy movement.

Ergonomics and physical health have a significant impact on mental health and well-being. Here are some ways that they impact each other:

  1. Reducing stress and anxiety

Sitting in an uncomfortable or awkward posture for an extended period can cause physical discomfort, leading to stress and anxiety. Our chairs are ergonomically designed with a chest pad to keep you aligned, maintain neutral posture, and reduce the strain on the body, which can reduce stress and anxiety.

2. Improving mood and energy levels

Sitting on a stool unsupported and working awkward positions can drain energy levels and affect mood. Our chairs are designed to maintain proper neutral posture and support the upper body by using armrests. This can improve energy levels and mood.

3. Enhancing focus and productivity

Physical discomfort and pain caused by poor ergonomics can be distracting and affect the operator’s ability to focus on tasks. Our chairs are designed to fit the work environment and promote comfort, safety, and productivity. The armrests relieve upper body tension and improve accuracy. This allows the operator to focus on tasks without being distracted by physical discomfort or pain.

4. Reducing absenteeism and healthcare costs

Ergonomics is an investment in the reduction in absenteeism due to work-related injuries and illnesses. Physiotherapy, chiropractic treatment and message are often results of poor ergonomics. Orbital Chairs provide full-body ergonomic support which is essential for physical and mental health and helps to reduce absenteeism and additional healthcare costs.

Sitting in the wrong posture for extended periods puts stress on your spine and can lead to pain in the lower back, shoulders, and neck. When you’re suffering from body pain, your work speed and accuracy will tend to slow down. This pain may eventually become chronic and further decrease your production and efficiency. You may even have to take frequent off days from work. The stress of such circumstances can lead to anxiety, which is often the starting point for serious mental health problems, including panic attacks and depression.

Orbital has created a comfortable chair that promotes good posture, full body support, healthy movement, and reduces the risk of physical injury. Through ergonomics, we strive to help operators improve their physical and mental health.
